Magnetic Message Board - For Work

Here is the second magnetic message board that I made with my Dad's help. I have it at work in my office.

You can't really tell from the picture, but the frame is pretty cool! : )

Magnetic Message Board

Here is a message board that I made with the help of my Dad. I bought the cool frame from an auction for only $2.  And then I bought the birds at a garage sale for 50¢, painted them white and put magnets on the back - voila!. I love how it all turned out! I'll have to find some more interesting trinkets to make more magnets...

R & S Builders

This was a quick turn-around project, less than a day for the logo, business cards, postcard and the also a door hanger. Kind of generic, but the client was happy.

Logo Design

This is my most recent logo design, it's for The Buffalo Trading Company (Obviously). It's actually just the illustration and text, but I wanted to see how it would look on a sign. I think it turned out pretty good. : ) It’s not a store I would shop in with the whole "Guns, Gods and Country" theme. Not sure why I keep getting all of these firearms clients? I need to balance it out with some volunteer design work for the Humane Society or something.

Christian's Picture Frame

Here is a picture frame I made for Abby’s baby boy, Christian. She loves sea turtles and his nursery has an ocean theme.  Not a very good picture, though - kind of really blurry.

Coffee Table

Another project for me:  Sprucing up this coffee table that I bought at the Brinkman's garage sale this past weekend for $10.  Needs to be dusted and then a little Old English. I might add something under the glass, like some sort of natural fiber.

Think I'm going to paint the bottom of my table black and keep the top brown (like this one), so that it matches the rest of my furniture.

Throw Pillows for Bedroom

Here are a couple of pictures of some new throw pillows I made for my bedroom. I still need to finish the bottoms of the square pillows, but almost done!  I bought:

• 2 square pillow forms from the Sal: $1.29 each
• Yellow fabric from Brinkman's Garage Sale: $0.50
• Dark gray fabric from JoAnn’s on Sale: $2.50
• Cute buttons from JoAnn’s  $0.97
• And I already had the round pillow form

So, all in all I spent under $7.00! : ) I think I might throw in a white pillow, too, to lighten it up a bit.

First Sewing Project for 2011

I'm going to put my new sewing/craft room to use this weekend! I'm going to start on this dress that I have had the pattern and material for for probably about 5 months. I hope that it turns out nice when it is all done... and I hope it fits! I will post pictures when it is complete. : ) I am not an experienced seamstress, so not sure how it will go. I'm hoping that there will be a minimal amount of frustration involved.

After the dress, I am going to make a cute bag that I have a pattern for and a cushion for the new chair my Mom bought me at the antique mall in Toledo tonight. : )

Getting started on Emily’s Logo :)

Spicy Chicken Pasta Salad... yum!

I'm going to make this pasta recipe tonight for Laura's baby shower tomorrow. It is SO tasty! I'm also going to make a fruit pizza. Should be a fun day with friends, celebrating the up coming arrival of Sydney Lee Parson. : )

Polenta with Italian Beef Stew

I'm making this recipe for dinner tonight for Emily and myself. It's from a  Betty Crocker slow cooker cook book she gave me as a welcome home gift. This was her pick out of all of the recipes in the book. It didn't sound too good to me at first, but now that it's cooking away and the smells are delicious, I am looking forward to dinner in 3 hrs! I also bought orange cinnamon rolls that she said were delish. I haven't had those before either. The guy who checked me out at Meijer said that the rolls smell better baking than they actually taste...
we'll see! : )

Emily and I are going to eat dinner and then work on brainstorming her professional organization company. Hopefully we come up with a name and a few logo concepts.

Well, now to relax and then start cleaning in about an hour.

Sewing Table

Here are a couple of pics of the sewing table that I made, with the help of my Dad. It is covered with spools on the front legs and was inspired by an antique table I saw at Jeffery’s Antiques. I tried to use American Accents crackle paint kit, but it didn't crackle. : (   When it gets warmer out I will paint it again... white and then antique the edges.  Turned out pretty cute, though!  And I bought an old chair at an auction last night that needs to have a seat made (with help from my Dad, too) and then I'll make a cushion for it and paint it white, as well.

Oh, and I'm going to paint the little lamp on the table all black and maybe cover the shade with some cute fabric. Bought it at the Goodwill. : )

Vintage Dictionary Prints: Insects

Here are my first attempts at printing on old dictionary pages. If I get enough that I like, I will try to sell them on Etsy. I'm not sure if I'll sell them framed? They look nice in these frames, though. The pictures aren't the greatest. Once I get a little bit of money saved up I will have to buy a new, better quality camera! (Oh, and I reprinted the dragonfly on a new page with better placement.)

Auto Token Logo

This is a logo that I have been working on for a few months, off and on, for a start-up company down in Atlanta. I have put a lot of hours into the project, WAY MORE than I am being paid for, but I think it turned out pretty good. Not sure which color option I like the best?

Home!

I moved back to Findlay almost 2 weeks ago now and am settling in. I've picked up 3 design jobs this week and already had one in the works. Now, I just need to start promoting myself directly to companies and pick up my own work!

On a different note, my dog Fritzi is not doing well. She is old and has many health problems, from liver cancer, to heart disease, and anemia. : ( She is on 5 different medications and I can only hope to keep her comfortable as the days go by. I'll have to soak her in while she is here with me. I'm happy that I can work from home to check on her and make sure she is doing okay. I can't imagine if I was living in Atlanta and had to be gone for 10+ hours a day with work.

I'm going to work on the masthead of this blog next week, too. I'm still not happy with it.

10 Day Count Down

Well, 10 more days until I move up to my hometown of Findlay, Ohio ( The great "Flag City".)

I have a lot to do in a short amount of time and I just hope that I can find a job or create my own freelance work once I get there. : )

I hope that today is going to be very productive and that I get everything on my list checked-off! I will post a picture of my portfolio booklet tonight, and of my Sweetgrass sample salon package. : )

Hopefully, in the days to come, I will really get this blog up and running and full of fun things!
